Stuff I'm Into...

A.M. Homes
It's been tough writing posts in the years post-Mustard Stains. With some (purely nostalgic) sadness I can't conjure up incensed tirades as a name-badge ripping, crotch-lasering Event Slave anymore.

I probably shouldn't be blasting off about work anyway since um, my NAME IS ON THIS ONE...

Here's some stuff I'm into these days instead:

BOOKS: Emily D. got me into A.M. Homes (check out her bodacious shoulder pads!) Her writing is vicious and hilarious and dark and nuanced and so easy to get sucked into. Thank you Emily! I'm holding off on Amy Poehler's Yes Please and asking for it for Xmas...

Sebastian Maniscalco
COMEDIANS: Jo Koy at the Wilbur last month (Mike likes him on Adam Carolla's podcast) was MUCH funnier than I'd anticipated.

I also peed my pants watching this guy Sebastian Maniscalco on Jimmy Fallon. If you have ever gone to a burrito place, especially one in the city, you'll die. The guy looks like he's either an extra from Jersey Boys or a smarmy/slimy/perpetually moist car salesman but I like him.

PODCASTS: I mean, Serial I don't have to even mention, but a good find was a Carolla podcast with Norman Lear where they discussed their careers and their shitty moms and having no self esteem. It was a really interesting exchange if you can get past Carolla's loud-ass voice and injections of his own opinion... Bill Burr's MMP is screechy and rambling but when he's funny, he's FUNNY, and I tried Alec Baldwin's  but he wasn't funny enough. I'm into podcasts if you turds couldn't tell.

MUSIC: Getting into Head and the Heart and pumped for Foo Fighters this summer, but otherwise I'm an old maid and I need recommendations.

A writer (and teacher), I mostly come here to write about the aftermath of having cancer. And knock on wood about that "aftermath" part. That whole mess started at this post: Sweater Puppies.
